Our class has a wonderful time on our field trip today at the New Canaan Nature Center! The weather was beautiful, sunny with a light breeze.

 

We began our trip by learning about how apple trees grow and then played a "bee game", learning about how bees pollinate to help apple trees grow. Next, we went into the Cider House and had a chance to watch the apple press in action making apple cider. Our guide, Bill, was very impressive as he juggled apples and tossed them into the apple press. While the machine was very loud, the students enjoyed watching the crushed apples turn into cider. Each student had a chance to pump the apple press three times! The students enjoyed some fresh apple cider. It was delicious! Afterwards, we enjoyed snack on the picnic tables and had a chance to explore the animals. The students really enjoyed looking at and talking to the two baby goats, six chickens and a hawk.
