Gavin in the News!
Gavin's cub scout den met with a blogger for the Darien Patch to learn about journalism. Here's the article she wrote about them:
When Jo-El Shea invited me to speak to Den 4's 6 and 7 year-old Hindley/Tokeneke cub scouts about writing as a form of communication, I was flattered, and then a bit anxious. How on earth am I going to capture their interest? Answer: Post them on the Patch!
Because I have an 8 year-old son myself, I know that I have about a 5-minute window of talking, and then I'd better show them something cool. So, after telling them a little about my writing, reviewing the six questions every writer should ask (who, what, where, when, why and how?), and snapping a picture, the scouts of Den 4 and I wrote up this blog post for the Patch.
I posed the following question to my new scout friends: What do you like most about St. Patrick's Day?
Owen loves St. Patrick's Day because his third favorite color is green. Hayden loves the holiday because he's hoping to catch a leprechaun. Jack loves leprechauns because they have a pot of gold. Lucas is excited because St. Patrick's Day comes right after his sister's birthday and that will make her happy.
Charlie loves the leprechauns because they dress funny and give you gold and he loves four leaf clovers. Woody loves to catch leprechauns because they grant wishes!
Gavin loves to eat potatoes on St. Patrick's Day—a real Irish treat! Anthony loves that at the end of the rainbow is a pot of gold. James likes that he always finds a four-leaf clover on St. Patrick's day and that makes it his lucky day!
